August in San Diego: What to See and Do

August in San Diego: What to See and Do

Back to Articles

For a lot of you, August marks the last month—well, hell, partial month, really—that you get to do the whole summer thing. School approaches for many and you’re going to have to make at least some effort to go to class. That means you’re trying to squeeze in as much as you can over the next few weeks in a last hurrah.

If you don’t have a badass, transcontinental excursion or elaborate road trip still planned, you’ll want to know what’s happening locally. While the following’s by no means a comprehensive list, we’ve selected a few San Diego-area events of varying types throughout the month of August for ya!

1. Anjunadeep Open Air at Hard Rock Rooftop | August 5th

You can kick things off this weekend courtesy of independent UK label, Anjunadeep, and the continuation of “Open Air: North America,” a series of day/night parties in dope spots scattered throughout our continent. This one is taking place right in our backyard at the Hard Rock Hotel Rooftop, with a day of music featuring:

  • 16 Bit Lolitas
  • Ben Böhmer
  • David Hohme
  • Luttrell
  • Yotto

Time: 12:00 - 9:00 PM

Location: Hard Rock Hotel
207 5TH AVE
San Diego, CA 92101

Throwing this in here for those of you that need a kickass date idea and don’t mind dropping some serious cash on your significant other, we’ve got 828 Concepts' event, Innovation Table. If you’re the foodie type and want to kick it with chefs and sommeliers, your fancy lil self will relish this five-course meal consisting of seasonal/local ingredients and produce, complete with wine pairings. (Note: It’s $100-125 per ticket, big timer.)

3. Gourmet Food Truck Festival | August 11th

Ok, ok, want a much less friggin’ expensive food-filled date idea? (Or just enjoy stuffing your face solo?) Bring your appetite and be prepared to loosen your belt at the 8th annual Gourmet Food Truck Festival, boasting chefs with a vision and a set of four wheels. We’re talking 30-40 SoCal food trucks here, including the likes of Baby’s Badass Burgers, Drizzle, Mahalo Shaved Ice, Bacon Nation, Chancos Tacos, Pizza Buscemi, Okamoto Kitchen, and many more.

Time: 12:00 - 6:00 PM

Location: Del Mar Thoroughbred Club

2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd

Del Mar, CA 92014

4. San Diego Beer and Wine Fest | August 11th

(Since this is the first annual version of the event there are no photos/video available, but above you can see video of a recent San Diego-held beer fest. We have a feeling things will go pretty similarly for most of you at this one.)

Gather ‘round for the first annual San Diego Beer and Wine Fest, you booze hounds! All you lovable degenerates have hundreds of beers and wines to look forward to, courtesy of wineries and breweries both national and local. It’s all bolstered by live music performances, a DJ, lawn games, and a smattering of food trucks, too (just not the ones you’ll see at the Gourmet Food Truck Festival, presumably). Admission (at $55 for regular and $70 for early) grants ya unlimited tastings. 21 and over only, cuz duh.

Time: 2:00 - 6:00 PM

Location: Embarcadero Marina Park
400 Kettner Boulevard
San Diego, CA 92101
