It’s a new year, and whether it’s a “new you” or you’ll simply be up to your old shenanigans, there’s a diverse set of events locally in San Diego this month that may cater to what you’re looking to get into!
1. Standup: Shawn Wayans

We like to throw a legit comedy act into these event roundups when possible and Shawn Wayans definitely foots the bill. He comes from one of Hollywood’s First Families of Comedy, arguably, having cut his teeth early on as the DJ on "In Living Color" (1990-94) and later (and more recognizably to our readership) on "The Wayans Bros.” and, of course, in "Scary Movie" (2000). This is your shot to see him live!
2. San Diego Brew Fest

There’s good ‘ole wholesome fun and then there’s this wonderful opportunity for debauchery—the 2019 San Diego Brew Fest! We’re talking 70 breweries and more than 150 beers, including local and international craft brews. Both VIP and regular admissions include unlimited beer tastings (VIP offers an extra hour) and there will be music and food trucks. Bonus: Proceeds from the event benefit rescue dogs!
3. 2019 Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon

Whether you’ve always been into marathons or this simply fits perfectly into your New Year’s resolution of a healthier, fitter you, the 2019 Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon is a fantastic opportunity to get out and get active. There are a ton of events to choose from for both advanced and more intermediate runners—a full marathon, half marathon , 5k “Surf Sun Run”, a Double Down Challenge, and even a Kid Marathon Mile at LEGOLAND. The main marathon offers sick views of the Pacific, and the entire event prides itself on its 26 fully staffed course support stations.
4. PGA Tour - Farmers Insurance Open

Maybe you’re into sports but not exactly feeling getting out there and doing it yourself at the aforementioned Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon. That’s cool—we ain’t judging. If you want to be a spectator, there’s the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open coming up on the 24th. It’s part of the tour’s early season—the “West Coast Swing”—and is taking place at La Jolla’s Torrey Pines, home of the upcoming 2021 U.S. Open. There will be a fan village, autograph areas, the Michelob ULTRA Zone, and more. Tiger's won here seven times!
5. San Diego Caffeine Crawl
When: Jan 25 - 27

More of a Cup o’ Joe kinda person than a booze person? Fortunately for you, January isn’t only about beer and wine fests. Instead, there’s the 6th-annual Caffeine Crawl San Diego, which moves through our beach towns and hills down onto Mission Blvd. and into downtown. There are 30 local roasts, tea importers, and cafes involved, and a total of ten potential routes to enjoy.
